The OLN has been successful in our application to the Future Drought Fund: Natural Resource Management (NRM) Drought Resilience Program Grants for our project "Understanding landscape and water to manage for drought conditions".
The objective of this project is to provide landholders in the Ovens Landcare Network with resources to plan for and manage drought conditions by increasing the understanding of how water, landscape, and vegetation interact.
We will:
Are you a member of a Landcare group in the Ovens Landcare Network?
Would you like to work with a local expert to map out your property and your water assets, and be supported in developing a 5 year plan to improve efficiency and drought resilience?
Through this funding the Ovens Landcare Network can support 30 landholders in our area to develop this great resource for their property.
Join the Ovens Landcare Network, Sustainable Farms from ANU, and Agriculture Victoria to learn about increasing the value of your farm dams. Ecologist Dave Smith will discuss the latest research on the multiple benefits of enhancing farm dams including improving water quality, supporting biodiversity, and reducing carbon emissions. Brad Costin will discuss tools to estimate the capacity of your dam and how long the water will last in dry conditions, and how to maintain your dam to get the most out of it.
Join the Ovens Landcare Network and Agriculture Victoria to learn more about farm water supply and demand, and gain an understanding of reticulation systems. This workshop will have a focus on stock water in our hill country and the considerations needed when dealing with slopes. Considerations such as pump sizes, friction loss in pipes and sizing, flow rate required, avoiding air locks and pressure requirement of pipes.
